Boston has no sense of humor. Yesterday the city shut down bridges, subways and highways, fearing that there was a massive terrorist plot afoot – though it turned out to be nothing more than a marketing ploy for Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the cartoon network show.
The “bombs” were actually small light installations with the space invader-like characters from the show, called mooninites. The Boston mayor is obviously not a fan:
“It is outrageous, in a post-9/11 world, that a company would use this type of marketing scheme,” Mr. Menino said in a statement. “I am prepared to take any and all legal action against Turner Broadcasting and its affiliates for any and all expenses incurred during the response to today’s incidents.” (NYTimes)
Yeah – I mean how dare people do stuff that could scare the supremely paranoid public! Gosh.
The same marketing scheme was launched in cities across the US – including New York, Chicago and Seattle. Police in those cities received no complaints.
