This Week’s Wandering News

Famous do-it-yourself traveler and guide pioneer Rick Steves interviews Rolf Potts for NPR this week. The podcast of the interview is still available, and definitely worth a listen to hear perspectives from the vagabonding guru.

Robert Paetz of Mom Says I’m Running Away blog has been in China these past couple weeks, and as of yesterday reached Tibet. He posts some exquisite photos, and compares Jesus’ birthplace to the Dalai Lama’s.

Every traveler knows the feeling all too well – the bouts of reminiscence and depression that settle in between journeys. Brave New Traveler posts this week about the top 10 things we miss about travel.

In this new era of green consciousness, as travelers we often ask ourselves, “What can I sacrifice?” Green as a Thistle, a Canadian blogger who’s giving up a non-green habit a day, talks about giving up certain kinds of airplane food to make a smaller environmental impact.

It can be tough giving up certain daily pleasures for the sake of travel goals, but we necessarily make sacrifices so we can scrape by in our journeys for just a bit longer – Vagabondish is having trouble giving up Starbucks, and he ponders how a buying a simple iced coffee means one less night in a hostel somewhere.

Happy Travels!
